Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin paid a moving tribute to India during the band’s concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday, marking the 76th Republic Day with soulful renditions of the iconic songs ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Maa Tujhhe Salaam’. The powerful performance left the audience captivated, earning resounding cheers and applause from the vibrant crowd.
Martin ended the tribute with a heartfelt salute, saying, “Salute to Mother India,” and extended Republic Day wishes to everyone present.
In another standout moment from the concert, Chris Martin dedicated a song to Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah. With a playful dig at the bowler’s dominance, Martin said, “O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket.” The dedication, accompanied by a video montage of Bumrah’s fiery bowling spells, was shared on Disney+ Hotstar’s Instagram handle and thrilled cricket and music fans alike.
Indian singer Jasleen Royal also joined Martin on stage earlier in the show for a touching duet of “We Pray”, a track from Coldplay’s latest album, Moon Music.
Chris Martin further delighted fans by giving a special shoutout to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan during the Mumbai leg of their tour, showcasing his deep appreciation for Indian culture.
Coldplay’s India tour featured performances in Mumbai on January 19 and 21, followed by two electrifying shows in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The Republic Day concert was live-streamed on Disney+ Hotstar, making it a memorable celebration for fans across the nation.
